Get out and spend with Mí Meath

County Meath Chamber is urging those with a Mí Meath Card to activate their card and to use it. Launched in late 2021 by County Meath Chamber to support Meath business, the Mí Meath Card has proven very popular because (a) It retains spend in Meath, (b) it can be reloaded and (c) the cardholder can save money with discounts available in several stores. Mí Meath cards can be purchased online for next day postage and are the ideal gift for weddings, birthdays, confirmations, communions, and other special occasions and they are now the card of choice within the county for corporates as staff rewards.

According to Paula McCaul CEO, County Meath Chamber, “People forgetting that they have a card or forgetting to spend it is not unusual. However, one of the fundamental principles of the Mí Meath scheme is to retain spend within the county and to support local business. It is very important not to leave cards unspent as this works against the objective of the initiative.  While the Mí Meath card doesn’t have punitive charges or a declining balance (unlike others!), unspent Mí Meath cards do nothing to benefit the cardholder or the retailer.

“Treat yourself in the coming weeks with the money you forgot that you had!  Whether your Mí Meath card is tucked away in your wallet or a safe place for a rainy day, we want you to use it now!  With over four hundred places to spend instore and online across County Meath, the choice is wide and varied - food, fashion, family fun, fuel, staycations, vacations, and a wealth of local services.  Check out the full list of 'Where to Spend' on www.mimeath

The most recent spending data on Mí Meath cards shows that over €100,000 was spent locally in Meath since Christmas with over 4,000 Mí Meath cards currently in circulation.  Top categories of spend are: Grocery, Retail Home & Garden, Fuel, Hotel, Eating Out, Family Fun, Pharmacies, Travel, Hair & Beauty.   Paula continues "We know however that there remains a significant unspent balance.  Unlike other gift card brands, we actually WANT you to be aware of you have and remind you that you should spend your balance."

Michael Hughes, President of County Meath Chamber said, The one and only aim of Mí Meath is to support retail spend within County Meath. We are delighted with how well the Mí Meath initiative has been embraced by the public since we launched just over a year ago.  Gifting a Mí Meath card also has the feel-good factor that you are supporting local businesses, mostly family run, and that you are keeping business and spending in Meath. We have also been delighted with the number of retailers who have registered and continue to register with us to accept the Mí Meath card in their stores and online as they recognise the advantages of accepting the Mí Meath card”.
