QUANTITY SURVEYOR

Road Surfacing and Contracting – Dunboyne, Co. Meath

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for Cost Planning, Contract Administration, Project Cost Control, Project Financial Management, Valuations, Payments, Project Monitoring & Reporting, Claims & Dispute Management

 

The complexity and pace of our operations place high demands on the position. The position requires an excellent communicator with strong problem-solving abilities and keen attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare estimates and purchase orders in detail for all products.
  • Communicate with team members regarding new and current projects.
  • Create and submit estimate reports to appropriate persons (Project Managers, Clients, Bidding Competitions, etc.).
  • Assist in selecting contractors and negotiating contract terms.
  • Interpret, and manage construction contracts for Civil Engineering projects.
  • Compile and complete Handover Project Folder and present to Operations Department
  • Monitor project costs against budget throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Track project progress and financial performance.
  • Ensure alignment between programme and cost.
  • Identify cost overruns and recommend corrective action.
  • Propose alternative materials, methods, or designs to optimize cost.
  • Assess and negotiate contractor claims (delays, variations, extensions of time).
  • Prepare and apply interim valuations for contractor payments
  • Agree final accounts with customers and subcontractors.
  • Provide regular updates to stakeholders (clients, project managers).
  • Produce cost reports and forecasts.
  • Certify payments to suppliers and subcontractors based on work completed.
  • Support dispute resolution processes (negotiation, adjudication, arbitration).
  • Maintain detailed records for claims defence.
  • Balance cost, quality, and sustainability considerations.
  • Be fully compliant with Company Health & Safety: policies, procedures, systems and rules, report all hazards and incidents and ensure that you work safely at all times.

Skills Required:

  • Recognised 3rd level qualification in Quantity Surveying.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in a Civil Engineering environment is a bonus
  • Excellent Maths and IT ability with an analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity in administration of various forms of construction contracts including the Public Works Contract, NEC etc.
  • Familiarity with financial and project management principles.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex issues both written and oral.
  • Ability to influence, build consensus and look for collaboration with people from different departments and all levels.
  • Solution orientated with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
