Chamber announce fundraising initiative for Meath Women’s Refuge

December 12th 2022:

Today County Meath Chamber and Meath Women’s Refuge & Support Services announced details of a unique collaboration with the Meath initiative.  The collaboration means that businesses, individuals, and families can donate to this worthy charity by purchasing a Mí Meath card online at mimeath.ie.  With 100% of the value gifted to the charity to purchase food, clothes and other essentials for families experiencing domestic abuse in Co. Meath, it is a great way to provide much needed support. Established in 1987, Meath Women’s Refuge support women and children affected by domestic violence. The refuge and helpline are open 24 hours a day 365 days a year, and the charity directly support over 500 women each year.

Sinead Smith, Manager, Meath Women’s Refuge & Support Services, said: “Many women and children seeking refuge leave their homes and most of their possessions behind. Your donation will provide practical support for families on their journey to safety, recovery, and a new beginning. Buying a Mí Meath card online and donating it to us is a safe and secure way to provide assistance to families in need this Christmas. We are hugely grateful to County Meath Chamber for their long-term support and commitment and for launching this practical way for the public to help women and children who have had to leave their home due to violence.”

Paula McCaul, CEO, Meath County Chamber, said: “I am delighted to be able to confirm the details of this funding initiative for Meath Women’s Refuge & Support Services through the Mí Meath card programme.  In general terms, anybody that donates through Mí Meath to this charity is directly supporting victims of violence who need our help, especially at this time of year, it is not just adults that are involved.  100% of the donation will go to the Meath Women’s Refuge & Support Services on Mí Meath cards. Donating is simple. Just log on to mimeath.ie, click ‘Donate a Mí Meath Card’ to buy a card with any amount between €15 - €150.  You will receive an email acknowledging your donation.  Mí Meath cards will be delivered directly to the charity on your behalf, and into the hands of those that need it most, to be spent within the local community."

Jackie Maguire, Chief Executive said "Meath County Council is delighted to be associated with such a very worthwhile cause."

The Mí Meath card is a prepaid debit card that was launched in 2021 by County Meath Chamber in collaboration with Meath County Council as a ‘shop-local’ initiative to support businesses in Meath by encouraging consumers to spend in the county.  Accepted in hundreds of outlets across Meath, whether shopping in the stores or online, for food, health & beauty, hardware stores, fuel merchants, clothing, family activities and hotels and more. Mí Meath cards have no hidden charges, the balance does not reduce over time and there is no limit to the amount that you can spend on an online purchase.  The complete list of where you can spend is on mimeath.ie where you can also purchase the Mí Meath card.
