County Meath Careers Expo Launch - September 2019
The County Meath Careers Expo was Officially Launched on Friday 13th September 2019 in Chamber House, Church Hill, Navan. The Expo (which takes place on 2nd October in the Ardboyne Hotel 2-8pm) is hosted by County Meath Chamber and will showcase 50 of Meath's top businesses (across all industries) offering 350+ local career opportunities for those longing to end their commute, seeking a career change or hoping to find a #local job.
Paula McCaul the CEO of County Meath Chamber explained. "We have 50 local employers attending the Expo all of whom are seeking staff. While the Expo was originally designed to support our members in recruiting new staff it is clear from the recent Meath Commuter Survey results that our Expo is answering a pressing need from employees who want to work closer to home. This Chamber initiative is a win win for all. Providing quality employment close to home delivers sustainable employment with enhanced quality of life for employees and their families."
A Meath County Council Commuter Survey has found that, almost half (48%) of the Meath commuters working outside the county, say they are hitting the roads before 7am with a further quarter leaving before 7.30am daily. The Meath Chambers Expo will provide hundreds of commuters with the opportunity to end this daily grind. "The survey results to date show that over 85% of Meath residents said they were happy where they live but a staggering 90% are interested in working closer to home and more flexible working hours. As a commuter I am acutely aware that local business, family and personal lives can be adversely affected with so many people taking long commutes to and from work every day."
For those who continue to be employed outside the County Kells Tech Hub provides a range of flexible solutions including hotdesks to allow people to reduce the number of days they commute. A number of other workspaces have been identified across the region which will offer commuters the opportunity to base themselves in an work space closer to their home.
"Attending the County Meath Careers Expo on 2nd October in the Ardboyne Hotel Navan could be a life changing experience. The Expo, hosted by County Meath Chamber, will showcase forty of Meath's top businesses (across all industries) offering 100’s of career opportunities for those who wish to Live, Work & Grow in Meath. The Expo is not just for commuters but is also for anyone seeking a change of career. Admission is free - to register log on to www.countymeathchamber.ie" Paula added.
The 2016 Census shows that Meath has the highest number of commuters of any county in Ireland with 54% of the working population commuting to work outside the county. This level of commuters imposes a heavy cost on the environment business and family life. The Meath Chambers Expo on October 2nd will greatly help to reduce that cost.
